ABOUT BEA

Building Equity and Alignment for Environmental Justice (BEA)’s mission is to foster authentic cross-sector relationships to advance the progress of the environmental movement towards a just transition. We shift power and resources from institutions to grassroots leadership to transform the environmental movement. BEA generates courageous collaborations and open communication by bringing together grassroots organizations, national organizations, and philanthropy. BEA also manages the BEA Fund, which aims to model inclusive and equitable grantmaking practices by using a participatory grantmaking process and providing grassroots organizations with flexible, core support grants. 

BEA is a BIPOC-led, growing, remote team who work in close collaboration with BEA members and partners to elevate the grassroots solutions that are key to our collective survival and wellbeing. 

ABOUT THE POSITION 

BEA is seeking a creative and strategic consultant who can provide content support.  The Communications Consultant will be charged with developing a concise, approximate 10 pages long, annual report of the organization’s activities and achievements during 2023, its 10th anniversary year of operation. This person shall conduct interviews with key stakeholders and grassroots representatives, collect and develop a narrative from 2023 documents and metrics, and execute a final product for digital distribution. We’re looking for this consultant to take over the design of the report, but are also open to bids who want to limit the scope to content.

The ideal candidate is a passionate and effective storyteller who has experience working in grassroots/frontline advocacy. They are sophisticated communications professionals who can lead the creation of high quality content while integrating input from staff.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Interview and synthesize stories from key stakeholders and grassroots representatives to capture BEA’s impact during 2023. The report is to include profiles, quotes, and/or narratives from key stakeholders and share grassroots representatives’ stories.
  • Review and synthesize organizational documents like evaluations, metrics, reports, etc to succinctly describe to the general public BEA’s activities and achievements.  
  • Write an annual report highlighting BEA’s 2023 impact and introduce the vision for the upcoming year to the general public, with a focus on BEA membership and funders. 
  • Design final report with images, refined formatting, and professional quality to publish digitally to a wide audience of members and media. 
  • Submit drafts at appropriate intervals with a goal to have a final product in early 2023.

The services outlined are not intended to be exhaustive. We are open to consultant input in the design of the ultimate scope of work.

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will have most of the following professional experience and skills:

  • People who are Black, Brown, Indigenous, and/or people of color and with lived experience in communities disproportionately impacted by racism and environmental injustice are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish 
  • At least 5 years experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Knowledgeable about environmental and climate justice issues.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills. Ability to build trust with audiences and bring contextual political analysis that advances BEA’s reputation in the field.
  • Alignment with BEA’s vision and commitment to advancing grassroots leadership in the environmental movement.

This is a contract with a budget of up to $15,000 for a fully designed report.
