WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

Responsible for the performance of select functions of the molecular testing laboratory and assures the smooth daily cGMP operation of the laboratory. Performs DNA extraction using manual and automated processes, PCR, SSP-PCR, PCR-RFLP genotyping and array-based genotyping techniques for prediction of blood group and platelet antigens. Utilizes various computer software programs related to data analysis. Actively interacts with other blood services departments on matters concerning donor and patient testing.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD (Key Responsibilities): 

  • Perform manual and automated extraction of high-quality DNA from blood samples or other bodily fluids.

  • Perform genotyping of patient and donor specimens using a variety of testing platforms.

  • Utilize laboratory information management system and web-based customer service request portal.

  • Perform duties associated with the ordering, receiving, inspection and preparation of supplies and reagents.  Perform maintenance and quality control of reagents and equipment.

  • Draft reports of testing for supervisor and director review.

  • Attend continuing education sessions and completes required training as assigned.

  • Interact with external and internal customers and ensure customer satisfaction. Mentor other Molecular Technicians as needed.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or Chemistry required. 

  • Experience: 1 year of general laboratory experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

  • Management Experience: N/A

  • Skills & Abilities: Strong attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Computer experience and familiarity with office automation (for example MS Word) desired. Ability to work on a team.

Schedule Information: M-F Second Shift 10:30 am to 7 pm

Pay Range: $20-25/hr

meet sudden and unpredictable needs. May be required to travel to sites throughout the region. Exposure levels are based on the essential functions as stated in this position description; however, in
some instances, variances may occur due to the applicable nature of this position within a particular
work site. Therefore, the work site may determine the exposure level to be greater than or less than the
below stated level.


This position is an exposure determination 1 since normal work involves potential exposure to blood or blood components and/or human body fluids or tissue samples because of splashes, spills, and/or needlesticks or performance of or assistance in first aid.
