AVP, Institutional Funding

OVERVIEW

Since 1972, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION

The AVP, Institutional Funding will play a key role in maintaining and growing Covenant House International’s private and corporate foundation as well as government sources of support for youth and young families facing homelessness.  Responsibilities include identifying and stewarding foundation and government funding opportunities; writing and reviewing proposals, reports, and other submissions; ensuring accurate tracking and timely adherence to proposal and reporting guidelines, deadlines, and responsibilities. The AVP will work with Covenant House leadership, the Key Partnerships team, and program staff to strategize and maximize funding opportunities. The AVP, Institutional Funding reports to the VP, Institutional Funding.

SALARY RANGE: ($100,000 - $130,000)

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Take a strong, hands-on role in the research, identification, and stewardship of new and existing foundation and government funders for general operating and program support.
• Work and strategize with the Key Partnerships team, leadership, and program to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals for institutional giving.
• Maintain a robust portfolio of foundations, identifying and stewarding relationships with foundation representatives to deepen and grow funding for CHI and affiliates.
• Develop and oversee the development and writing of private and corporate foundation as well as government proposals, and other materials to ensure high-quality products.
• Use Every Action, Asana, and other tools to track grants and reporting deadlines, ensuring timely submissions.
• Act as liaison as appropriate between Covenant House and funding sources to ensure contractual compliance that includes programmatic and fiscal reports.
• Lead and facilitate site visits as appropriate.
• Maintain and enhance relationships, both internal and external, that support Covenant House services for youth experiencing homelessness.

Other responsibilities, as needed, may include:

• Assist in the creation of reports and other materials.
• Represent Covenant House in meetings, site visits, phone conversations, and events, as needed.
• Participate in internal committees as requested.
• General systems and administrative tasks as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Eight (8) years experience in grant writing and working with private and corporate foundations as well as government funders.
• Excellent verbal, and written communication skills, with ability to translate passion into compelling cases for support.
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Experience using a relationship management system/donor database and comfort with Microsoft Office.
• Team player, with ability to work with all levels of the organization.
• Flexible schedule for occasional weekend or evening events or deadlines.
• Dedicated to the mission of Covenant House.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred.
