Position Title: Senior Editorial Producer

Location: Washington, DC

Position Reports To: Chief Content Officer

Salary: $80-$90,000/yr

Essential Duties: LULAC is building a digital newsroom. The Senior Editorial Producer (SEP) is the day-to-day editorial lead, responsible for moving stories from concept to publication while upholding the standards, voice, and priorities set by the Chief Content Officer (CCO). The SEP executes a content strategy rooted in LULAC’s mission: to inform, engage, and empower Latino and marginalized communities through clear, accessible, and accountable storytelling. The SEP operates as both an editor and producer, helping build the newsroom’s systems, workflows, and editorial culture.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Approach

  • Explanatory, clarity-first journalism
  • Visual-first, mobile-native storytelling
  • Community-informed reporting
  • Rigor, transparency, and accountability in sourcing and framing

EDITORIAL OPERATIONS

  • Own the editorial calendar and story pipeline from pitch to publication
  • Assign, track, and deliver stories on deadline without sacrificing accuracy or context
  • Edit scripts and posts for clarity, accessibility, and alignment with standards
  • Maintain workflows, editorial standards, and legal vetting processes
  • Monitor performance and adjust format, tone, and distribution with the CCO

CONTENT PRODUCTION

  • Source and develop stories across policy, culture, and community impact
  • Frame complex issues into clear, engaging narratives
  • Produce as needed, especially during breaking or high-priority moments
  • Maintain a forward-looking editorial calendar
  • Support short-form, vertical, and platform-native storytelling
  • Oversee publishing and corrections

TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Run day-to-day editorial coordination across staff and contributors
  • Give clear, actionable feedback
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of contributors
  • Manage direct reports with clear expectations and accountability 

COLLABORATION & GROWTH

  • Translate internal policy and research into audience-facing content
  • Support partnerships that expand reach and sourcing
  • Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and engagement
  • Help develop new formats and workflows 

Competencies:

Editorial Judgment

  • Strong news judgment and ability to frame complex issues clearly and accurately
  • Experience applying factchecking, sourcing, and editorial standards in fast-paced environments

Digital Storytelling

  • Experience with mobile-first, platform-native content (short-form video, social, explainers)
  • Strong writing and script editing skills with a focus on clarity and accessibility

Operations & Leadership

  • Experience managing editorial workflows or coordinating contributors
  • Ability to give clear feedback, manage priorities, and keep production moving

Mission Alignment

  • Ability to translate policy and community issues into clear, engaging content
  • Commitment to accuracy, transparency, and community-informed reporting 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Media Production, Communication, Journalism or related Work experience in actual field can be substituted for degree.
  • 5+ years in digital media, newsroom, or mission-driven content environments
  • Proven track record of editing and producing stories from pitch to publication under deadline

Work Status: United States Citizen, DACA or Permanent Resident Required 

Employment Condition: All employees must meet a 6-month probationary period. Continuation of this position after one year is dependent on the successful candidate meeting jointly determined performance goals.
