Employs instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assesses accomplishments of students, and provides progress reports as requested and required.
Teaches students to understand vehicle components in order to perform pre and post trip inspections.
Instructs students on location and purpose of various components in diesel trucks and semi-trailers.
Ensures that Hawkeye Community College and other vendor equipment (e.g. trucks, trailers), facilities, and tools are kept clean and in good condition.
Provides instruction to individuals enrolled in transportation programs at the Regional Transportation Training Center or at various company locations.
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
Adheres to DOT, Hawkeye Community College, and departmental safety regulations and rules.
Treats and respects all students equally and addresses any inappropriate behavior promptly and fairly.
Instructs other transportation courses offered at the Regional Transportation Training Center.
Travels to other sites and provides instruction.
Recruits transportation companies to provide on-the-job training for students enrolled in Hawkeye programs.
Manages the CDL A & B and School Bus/Passenger Bus programs to include providing specific training instruction for instructors, ensuring each student is trained with the best technique for their learning abilities and skills.
Participates in campus committees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years on the road or local driving experience, or teaching equivalence.
Hold a current CDL Class A license with no restrictions.
Demonstrated ability to utilize and operate full-size semi-trucks during instruction.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment (40-hour work week)

Job Summary
This position diagnoses problems and makes mechanical repairs to all types of equipment used in roadway and parts maintenance and performs vehicular maintenance for all county departments. The Technician at times will be working in the field three or more hours per shift servicing equipment. This is a journey level position requiring experience in welding and fabrication, maintaining gas and diesel truck engines, and hydraulically operated equipment. Major duties include: inspecting, diagnosing, and making repairs to road construction and grounds maintenance equipment and automotive fleet; and designing, modifying, repairing, and installing hydraulic systems and components. Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a journey level equipment/vehicle Technician Certified vocational course work or training relating to repair and maintenance of various fleet equipment may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Five (5) years of experience working on diesel truck engines and hydraulically operated equipment is highly desirable.
Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Must possess or be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License Class A with air brake and HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) endorsement and passenger endorsement, within one (1) month of hire.
Experience in welding and fabrication is highly desirable.
Any combination of education, experience, and training that would demonstrate the ability to perform the work will be considered.
Knowledge of: Gas and diesel truck engines and hydraulically operated equipment; mechanical repair and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities will also include maintaining, restocking and cleaning restrooms and may provide supervision and training to small groups of temporary workers, volunteers, and offender crews.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
Two years of experience involving parks or grounds maintenance; landscape construction and/or maintenance or any other labor-intensive work experience that directly involves the skills required to operate landscape related machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles or equipment.
Must possess a valid motor vehicles operator’s license.
Must possess or obtain within five (5) months of hire a Commercial Driver’s License Class A with ‘N’ tanker endorsement.
Must be able to obtain a commercial Public Pesticide Applicators License within five months of hire.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal record check that includes fingerprinting
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and will be subject to random drug testing throughout employment
Be able to work outdoors with exposure to a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
Assignments are labor intensive which require the physical ability to stand and/or walk while manipulating a variety of tools to perform assigned tasks.
Work requires the ability to navigate on uneven terrain, bend, crouch, reach, and lift to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

JOB SUMMARY
This person in this position is responsible for operation of Commercial Sanitation Equipment such as Front End Loader Truck, Roll-Off Truck and related equipment to provide prompt service to all Commercial and Industrial customers of the City Sanitation Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates Front End Loader Garbage Truck, Roll-Off Garbage Trucks, and related department equipment;
Participates in scheduling work and Sanitation routes as necessary;
Performs Daily inspection of related Trucks, Equipment, and Containers;
Utilizes front-loading truck and roll-off truck in the collection and disposal of solid waste;
Performs daily inspections on assigned vehicles;
Collects solid waste from various locations and delivers to disposal facility;
Checks with Supervisor, Sanitation Accounts Specialist and other clerical staff as designated for daily assignments;
Notifies supervision of hazardous material in containers;
Cleans and washes assigned vehicles; checks tires, oil, fuel, water levels and all aspects of the trucks and related equipment;
Completes required documentation on daily activities/routes and forwards to supervision/clerical staff as required;
Reviews data for complete and accurate information;
Inspects waste for flammable and hazardous substances;
Assists other employees in the performance of job functions;
Receives customer complaints and requests and relays concerns to supervision;
May be required to assist with training of Commercial Sanitation Operator Trainee.
