Regional Director

The Department of the Interior is currently seeking qualified candidates for the Senior Executive Service (SES) position of Regional Director located in Alton, IL. The incumbent would be responsible for the following:

1. Serves as the executive leader in OSMRE's Regions 3,4, & 6 (Mid-Continent Region) and provides executive management, direction, and supervision necessary to administer the total OSMRE program within the States of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.
2. Administers an extensive range of program activities related to reclamation of abandoned mine lands, regulatory State Program evaluations, Indian Lands Federal Program evaluations, inspection and enforcement activities, technology development and transfer programs, technical support efforts, coordination of State and Federal programs, and administrative activities.
3. Partners with States to implement by Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) of 1977 including communicating, consulting and coordinating with States, citizens, and other constituent groups to achieve SMCRA's objectives.
4. Manages OSMRE's technology development and transfer program activities to enhance the technical skills that States need to operate their regulatory and reclamation programs to more effectively implement SMCRA.
5. Establishes goals and monitors program progress to determine conformity with State and National policies relative to regulating surface coal mining operations and the reclamation of abandoned mine lands.
6. Advises the Director's Office on public sentiment regarding technical and administrative programs and analyzes and initiates methods for enlisting public participation and cooperation in formulating States' policies and objectives for major OSMRE programs.
7. Executes oversight, through subordinate managers, to Division Offices engaged in the following organizational areas: Program Support Division, Field Offices and Alton Field Division, and Regional Office Administrative Support.
