DUTIES:
Assist with Simulation
Program software to model various nursing clinical scenarios according to faculty specifications. Dress simulation mannequins appropriately based on simulation scenario. Support/assist in role playing applications, voice overs, props placement, and moulage set-up before and after simulations to create a virtual healthcare setting. Assemble pre-simulation handout material for students. Assist with training faculty in the use of simulation equipment. Serve as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation. Operate mannequins during the simulation. Return lab to original state. Provide feedback to faculty regarding how students perform on a simulation.

Essential Job Functions

Establishes long and short-range strategic plans for designated areas in collaboration with college leadership.
Leads and directs faculty assignments and schedule management.
Utilizes data from enrollment and retention reports to determine the number of sections of classes to offer, finding/assigning instructors based on their credentials; determining rooms based on equipment needs, and determining the time of course offering to best suit student needs.
Facilitates recruitment, registration, enrollment, and retention of students.

Responsible for supervising, hiring, job coaching, completion of annual staff performance evaluations, oversees assignment of professional development opportunities for faculty and staff, and performs administrative tasks such as processing and approving leave requests and work load. Partners with HR regarding disciplinary matters.
Continuously analyzes and evaluates performance of faculty and makes recommendations for improvement. Manages probationary process of new faculty including required semester reviews. Leads faculty development initiatives.
Prepares reports as needed for college, state, federal, or other entity reporting requirements.
Conducts advisory meetings to provide guidance on the directions of the programs.
Collaborates with other designated HCC personnel regarding course and program offerings for concurrent enrollment with school districts within the service area.
Collaborates with high school and higher education institutions to assure seamless transfers.
Resolve faculty and student issues to include by meeting with faculty and students to discuss concerns.
Provides guidance regarding resolutions.
Collaborates with other community colleges to deliberate programs of study.
Collaborates with faculty to assess HCC equipment as well as assess future equipment needs within the departments and discipline areas.
Keep apprised of higher education regulations and requirements, and developments via statewide community college meetings, conferences, and seminars, and other professional development avenues.
Partners with facility management to provide updated and safe learning environments.
Manages the designated area(s) budget to include grants, professional development, and over all purchasing needs.
Manages materials and supplies; works with faculty and administrative assistants to assess needs, sourcing, and price determination. Facilitates the requisition and purchase order process.
Oversees assigned program area for accreditation and works with local school districts and the Iowa Department of Education regarding requirements for accreditation.
Attends HCC meetings to discuss and resolve college issues, and/or concerns.
Develops professional development opportunities for high school instructors. Works with faculty to provide courses that will provide college credit and re-licensure credits for high school instructors.
Participates on hiring committees for the selection of faculty, professional, and support service staff.
Participates in campus committees as assigned.
Conducts advisory meetings to provide guidance on the directions of the programs.
Enhances the School and College profile, resource streams, and engagement with alumni and the community.
Actively participates and supports public and community health initiatives.
Accreditation responsibilities to include obtaining knowledge of accreditation requirements for all programs that have governing bodies or required accreditation under the Dean’s direction.
Provides support to program chairs when completing required accreditation process reports.
Provides support to the college’s accreditation liaison when required for the Iowa Department of Education, NACEP and the Higher Learning Commission.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a physical or natural science or healthcare discipline, education, administration, or closely related field.
Minimum of five (5) years’ administration experience in post-secondary education setting with at least two (2) years full-time teaching experience in a post-secondary health or science program.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of accreditation in higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching instruction.
Demonstrated experience in program development, planning, curriculum and budget management.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend hours.

The Carvalho Lab applies state-of-the-art molecular sequencing technologies to investigate the genome of individuals with rare diseases. Our goal is to investigate disease-specific genomic alterations to understand how they contribute to disease expression and the mechanisms underlying DNA variation formation. Students will learn human genetics and analysis of next-generation sequencing data in the context of diseases. Potential projects will allow interns to learn and use various technologies and methodologies to study the structure of the genome.
The Dudley Lab studies how naturally occurring genetic variation leads to the stunning array of phenotypic diversity that we see on the planet. As an undergraduate intern in our lab, you will use a combination of classic microbiology, modern genomics, and high throughput robotics to discover which mutations in human genes could cause disease. Potential projects will focus on genes that cause rare childhood diseases in which rapid diagnosis can positively impact a patient's health outcome.
The McLaughlin Lab studies genome evolution with a particular interest in the evolutionary arms race between our genomes and pathogens like viruses and transposons. As an undergraduate intern in our lab, you will use a combination of molecular and computational biology to explore how our innate immune genes evolve to stop pathogens and the diseases that result when our immune system falters. Potential projects will focus on studying new genes that contribute to our ability to prevent disease and how pathogen replication could drive autoimmune disease.
The Metzger Lab studies a transmissible cancer in clams in which the cancer cells themselves jump from animal to animal through the environment. As an undergraduate intern in our lab, you will use a combination of experimental and computational techniques to grow clam cancer cells in the lab, analyze cancer genomes, and detect cancer-specific DNA in seawater. Potential projects will focus on understanding how cancer can evolve and how host animals can become resistant to it.
The Stubbs Lab studies the genetics of brain development, and how differences in brain development translate into individual behaviors and susceptibility/resilience to disease. As an undergraduate intern in our lab, you will study genes encoding regulatory factors—transcription factors and key signaling molecules—that sit atop gene networks that are activated with precise timing and sequence to build and maintain a fully functioning brain. Potential projects will include studying genes that function in the brain to impact social interactions, emotions, and intellectual capabilities.
By participating in this internship, you will:
Conduct scientific research in a biomedical research lab
Participate in scientific seminars, journal clubs, and career development activities
Interact with scientists from a variety of different disciplines, including genetics, evolutionary biology, biomedical engineering, medicine, and computational biology
Learn about a wide range of career options in the fields of life science research, industry, and medicine
Present the results of your research to your peers and colleagues
Qualifications:
Must be a current college student, entering their second or later year in 2024.
Must have a strong interest in life sciences, medicine, math, or engineering
Must be able to commit 30 hours per week for a minimum of nine (9) consecutive weeks between Monday, June 10 and Friday, August 30, 2024. Specific dates will be determined with consideration to each student’s academic calendar and their host lab’s availability

Interns will receive a stipend of $5,600.00 paid on a monthly schedule of $1,400.00 per payment. The length of the SURI program shall last nine weeks. SURI Interns are expected to commit at least 30 hours of work per week to the program.
Interns are responsible for all costs associated with their travel to Seattle, local housing for the duration of the program, and meals. PNRI will provide a free ORCA card for local public transportation to each intern. Housing is available through the University of Washington’s Seattle Intern Housing Program and may be available through Seattle University .

The Stubbs Lab studies the genetics of brain development, and how differences in brain development translate into individual behaviors and susceptibility/resilience to disease. As an undergraduate intern in our lab, you will study genes encoding regulatory factors—transcription factors and key signaling molecules—that sit atop gene networks that are activated with precise timing and sequence to build and maintain a fully functioning brain. Potential projects will include studying genes that function in the brain to impact social interactions, emotions, and intellectual capabilities.
By participating in this internship, you will:
Conduct scientific research in a biomedical research lab
Participate in scientific seminars, journal clubs, and career development activities
Interact with scientists from a variety of different disciplines, including genetics, evolutionary biology, biomedical engineering, medicine, and computational biology
Learn about a wide range of career options in the fields of life science research, industry, and medicine
Present the results of your research to your peers and colleagues
Qualifications:
Must be a current college student, entering their second or later year in 2024.
Must have a strong interest in life sciences, medicine, math, or engineering
Must be able to commit 30 hours per week for a minimum of nine (9) consecutive weeks between Monday, June 10 and Friday, August 30, 2024. Specific dates will be determined with consideration to each student’s academic calendar and their host lab’s availability

Interns will receive a stipend of $5,600.00 paid on a monthly schedule of $1,400.00 per payment. The length of the SURI program shall last nine weeks. SURI Interns are expected to commit at least 30 hours of work per week to the program.
Interns are responsible for all costs associated with their travel to Seattle, local housing for the duration of the program, and meals. PNRI will provide a free ORCA card for local public transportation to each intern. Housing is available through the University of Washington’s Seattle Intern Housing Program and may be available through Seattle University .

The Program Specialist 2 is a dynamic position with two distinct yet related roles which support student success and effective program operations. Offer individual appointments, group sessions, or workshops to assist students in navigating systems; remove barriers, develop components of an individualized success plan, and access resources and community services.
Support new student academic orientation by leading administrative organization and facilitating student support content.
Assist students in goal setting, time management, organizational techniques, and self-care strategies.
Provide referrals to financial assistance resources, housing, food, transportation, childcare, and/or scholarships.
Provide support and training on managing test anxiety, study tips, life balance, career counseling, resume building, and APA workshops.
Develop and maintain partnerships with Clark College and community support services.
Maintain service delivery records and database with statistics required by nursing program accreditation and regulation.
Provide information to students, staff, professional partners, and the public regarding program content, policies, and activities through a variety of communication modalities (email, Canvas, Zoom, and formal documents). Direct specific inquiries from students to the appropriate nursing department or campus contact.
Work collaboratively with Nursing Department leadership and the college Advising Office personnel in the program entry process, maintain applicant status updates, and compose appropriate status notification letters to advise students of selection status.
Create and maintain accurate records of student selection and status; create, maintain, and update documents associated with scheduling and batch enrollment of all students in the nursing program. Utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, and SharePoint.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

Review and approve departmental budget requests and monitor budgets.

Formulate and control the faculty travel fund budget allocated to the division through discretionary funds and the dean’s office budget.
Collaborate with Philanthropy & Engagement
In all of these areas, an effective leader will work with faculty and staff to build and sustain healthy collaborations within the NASD , across the college, and with external stakeholders. Teaching and scholarship commensurate with appointment at the rank of associate professor or above in one of the departments of the Natural and Applied Sciences.

A history of successful engagement with undergraduates in collaborative research.
