The Access & Instruction Specialist is a permanent, full time staff member of the Access & Instruction Team at the College of Charleston Libraries who works primarily at the Access & Instruction Desk in Addlestone Library. Directly supporting Pillar 1 in the College’s Strategic Plan, this position impacts our students’ College experience and success by providing academic support and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students feel they belong. Under the direct supervision of the Circulation and Shelving Manager and the direction of the Access Services Coordinator, the Access & Instruction Specialist provides excellent point-of-need access and instruction services (in-person and virtually) to all patrons; works with members of the Access and Instruction Unit to promote the College Libraries’ spaces, resources, and services across multiple channels and platforms to increase student engagement and success; assists with supervising and training student employees; and ensures library systems and facilities are operating as expected.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma and 2 years of library/information services experience or a bachelor’s degree and 1 year of customer service experience. Ability to bend, stoop, and lift material up to 30 pounds. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Working evenings and Sundays is required.

Excellent customer service skills. Technologically proficient with Windows and iOS software operations, scanning technology, and Microsoft Office programs. Fluency in content creation and content management; confident in navigating social media platforms; creative, detail-oriented, and resourceful. Ability to teach others basic research and technology skills. Ability to prioritize job duties and multitask. Must be flexible, adaptable, and demonstrate enthusiasm for changes in technologies and services. Must demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work and troubleshoot issues independently as they arise. Must be able to lead projects involving clearly defined, time-sensitive outcomes.

Knowledge of current library systems, computer databases, basic library research methods, and information resource management preferred. Experience with and proficient use of access services components of integrated library system(s) and SpringShare LibApps Platform (or similar library services platform) preferred. Proficiency and experience with using Canva software to create promotional materials preferred. Familiarity with WordPress or other blogging platforms preferred. Typical work week during regular semesters is Sunday – Thursday, 12pm – 8pm. This shift serves as a backup for the Sunday-Thursday, 4pm – Midnight shift. Hours and location are subject to change and may be revised as needed, especially during summers, holidays, and days when classes are not in session.

Provides individual and group instruction on use and analysis of information sources and library services.
Collaborates with faculty, staff, and instructional technologists to identify, create, and implement innovative online tools and services for both on-campus and distance learners.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the library, assisting users with accessing library resources, equipment and software, the campus learning management system, etc.
Provides descriptive records, subject headings, and classification numbers to facilitate the access of library materials.
Manages the content, design, and use of the library’s digital resources, as well as course related web resources to include LibGuides and other online tools.
Manages the library’s Primo online presence and assists in the management of the Alma integrated library system.
Collaborates in the design, development, and maintenance of the library’s web presence to include informational, instructional, and promotional materials.
Participates in library collection development and maintenance.
Oversees the implementation of interlibrary loan services.
Uses analytic tools to gather, report, and evaluate reference and instruction data.
Develops and maintains relationships to local, state, regional, and national library agencies and organizations.
Maintains professional awareness and knowledge of library services through reading and participation in professional meetings, and organizations.
Serves as lead for the acquisition, management, discovery and troubleshooting of electronic resources; supervising the Library Technician and other support staff as needed.
Serves as back-up to the Director of Library Services in their absence.
Participates in campus committees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Library and Information Science or currently enrolled in an MLS program and will graduate within six (6) months from date of hire.
Two (2) years of professional library experience, including teaching information literacy.

Demonstrated ability to complete classification and original cataloging tasks.
Demonstrated knowledge of modern library processes, practices, and systems.
Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 4:30PM with occasional hours teaching information literacy instruction classes in the evening and/or at outlying centers. This position also serves as backup for an occasional night or Sunday shift as needed.

Responsible for drawdown of federal financial aid and federal grant funds.
Manages accounting for college self-funded health insurance program.
Coordinates annual Property, Liability and Casualty insurance renewal.
Serves as Board Treasurer, an officer of the school corporation.
Prepares accounting entries for General Obligation Bonds.
Oversees accounting for auxiliary enterprises such as bookstore, cafeteria, etc.

Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates department staff.

Manages the activities of the Financial Policy Waiver Committee to review student applications for a waiver of tuition and fees.
Manages the contract staff for the mail room, print services, shipping and receiving.
Oversees the investment of college cash balances.
Manages fiscal year-end accounting and reporting activities, including preparing entries and schedules, reviewing and approving entries and schedules prepared by other staff, working with the auditors throughout the review and preparation of the audit report.
Responsible for drawdown of federal financial aid and federal grant funds.
Manages accounting for college self-funded health insurance program.
Coordinates annual Property, Liability and Casualty insurance renewal.
Serves as Board Treasurer, an officer of the school corporation.
Prepares accounting entries for General Obligation Bonds.
Oversees accounting for auxiliary enterprises such as bookstore, cafeteria, etc.
Participates in campus committees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
Five (5) years directly related work experience required.

Demonstrated knowledge of accounting rules and regulations including the Iowa Code and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

The Behavioral Health Specialist provides innovative in-home behavioral health counseling services to individuals in AFC’s supportive housing programs. Utilizing harm reduction and trauma informed service delivery approaches, the Behavioral Health Specialist will provide mental health and substance use services to chronically ill formerly homeless individuals. The Transition Specialist works with students enrolled in English Language Learning (ELL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Completion (HSC), and Integrated Education and Training (IET) classes in the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program at the Hawkeye Community College Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center to aid them in the successful transition to post-secondary education or training. This position addresses barriers to college entrance, persistence, and completion.

Coordinates transition to college events for AEL students.
Completes and discusses career interest inventories.

The Transition Specialist works with students enrolled in English Language Learning (ELL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Completion (HSC), and Integrated Education and Training (IET) classes in the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program at the Hawkeye Community College Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center to aid them in the successful transition to post-secondary education or training. This position addresses barriers to college entrance, persistence, and completion.
Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Meets one-on-one with students to discuss academic goals and options.
Coordinates transition to college events for AEL students.
Completes and discusses career interest inventories.
Connects students with FAFSA help, assists students to fill out college admission paperwork, and connects students with admissions and financial aid departments.
Organizes regular college campus tours for HSC/ELL students.
Collaborates with admissions and financial aid departments and EOC at UNI-CUE to offer presentations to HSC and ELL students at all campus sites.
Stays current on program requirements and new initiatives such as IET, GAP, and PACE.
Knows the HSC/ELL student body well enough to be able to provide the intensive assistance necessary for successful transition to post-secondary education and training.
Promotes college scholarships to HSC/ELL students who are transitioning to post-secondary, assists with applications as necessary, and assists with departmental duties regarding these scholarships.
Provides support service/retention effort/college completion initiative for college credit students who were HSC/ELL students.
Maintains communication with the HSC/ELL teachers and administrative staff.
Collaborates with staff and teachers to implement orientation for HSC/ELL students.
Serves on planning committees for HSC/ELL completion and graduation ceremonies.
Maintains necessary records and prepares statistical reports as required.
Selects and orders any necessary instructional or college promotional materials and serves as a resource person for HSC/ELL staff.
Provides professional development on transition to college for HSC/ELL staff.
Serves as a positive voice to community groups about HSC/ELL students.
Attends meetings with community and college groups, and the Iowa Department of Education as needed.
Serves on committees and advisory boards as needed, especially those pertaining to college enrollment, retention, and completion.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Social Sciences, Business, or related field.
Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain chauffeur’s license.

Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
Experience with Adult Education and Literacy programs.
Proficient in a language other than English
