Position Title : Development Director

We are seeking an energetic and highly organized Development Director to implement our development plan. This is a key role in helping to grow the organization. The successful candidate will be analytical and creative, collaborate well with a passionate and fun staff, and coordinate and manage multiple projects. Essential Functions: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development Director (DD) will provide strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, evaluation, integration, and administration development department. The DD will lead a team of development professionals in achieving the organization’s revenue goals, increasing income, and educating and engaging more individuals and institutions in the to advance the organization’s mission. The DD will be part of a skilled team of professionals working to raise at least $5 million annually. The DD manages a multi-faceted fundraising program; central to this role will be prioritizing personal solicitation of major donors, events, online and direct marketing, and foundation fundraising.
Duties:
Work closely with the Development Team to establish fundraising goals, set strategic priorities, advise on program development, and develop and meet annual budget
Manage and build a growing team of development professionals, provide on-going guidance, direction, and motivation, hire team members and provide oversight to consultants as needed, delegate appropriately and ensure strong internal communication and coordination, and evaluate performance and provide opportunities for personal and professional growth
Work closely with the Boards of Directors to engage them more deeply in the fundraising process and to help cultivate a strong relationship between board members and the organization
Help track cultivation and prospecting activity and ensure the execution of action items
Solicit contributions from major individual donors and steward long-term relationships with donors
Develop relationships with prospective individual and foundation donors to increase funding
Research prospective institutional and individual funders
Work with internal partners to draft and edit proposals and reports
Track proposal and reporting deadlines, ensure that all submitted materials are accurate and comply with any funder requirements
Manage all grant activity in a central database and deliver regular reports to the Executive Director
Serve as the point person for management and maintenance of funders database and ensure efficient system utilization across all units
Oversee the implementation of ongoing programs to improve the renewal rates of existing annual donors, creatively use events to upgrade donors and maintain a diversity of revenue
Work with the VP of Operations to develop annual budgets and income projections
Stay abreast of political and philanthropic trends and ensure that Board and staff are informed of changes in legislation and other trends and initiatives that might impact giving
Competencies:
Experience in fundraising and achieving corporate s;ponsorships

Well-developed writing, interpersonal and organizational skills and experience managing staff
Commitment to organization’s mission and understanding of current policy issues and political landscape
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with, and quickly gain the respect and support of, various constituencies, including a visible chief executive committed to raising money, established development management team, active board members, other senior leadership, program directors and donors.
Experience as an effective communicator who is articulate and persuasive in both the spoken and written word; must be adept at crafting materials and making presentations to a variety of audiences

Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000/year

The Department of Community Justice (DCJ) is recognized as a national leader in both adult and juvenile community justice. DCJ routinely consults and makes use of evidence-based practices in our program and policy development. Clinical Direction and Oversight for Assessment & Evaluation Behavioral Residential Program
Provide oversight of clinical operations of the program.

Program development, planning, coordination, and implementation
Lead in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices for improved outcomes.
Monitors employee compliance with policy and procedure and keeps JSD Director advised of staff issues.
Set goals and objectives for the unit in alignment with the Department’s overall mission and vision.
Continuously review and evaluate the quality of services provided by individual work teams.
Provide leadership, strategy, and advice, driving the programmatic work of the Restorative Practices team.
The Restorative Practices team includes the Hands of Wonder garden, Detention restorative practice coordinator, and Court and Community Services restorative practice coordinator.
The programmatic work includes developing and implementing restorative practice training programs, designing and facilitating, restorative circles or meetings, creating policies and procedures for restorative approaches, evaluating the effectiveness of restorative interventions, and collaborating with other internal and external stakeholders to promote restorative practices.
Provide leadership for interagency collaborations that will improve policies and procedures to better youth and families impacted by the Juvenile Justice system.
Research evidence based practices related to subject matter expertise, including topics on trauma, cultural responsivity, and reducing overrepresentation of marginalized populations in the Juvenile Justice system.

DCJ routinely consults and makes use of evidence-based practices in our program and policy development. Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response. ABOUT THE POSITION
Our Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships will play an important role building external partnerships that position Making Waves to increase college and career opportunities and outcomes for underrepresented students in the Bay Area. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you will be responsible for 1) leading the year-to-year strategy and execution of corporate partnerships, 2) managing a portfolio of institutional funders, 3) retaining, upgrading, and diversifying our base of corporate and foundation partners.

A competitive base salary range of $102,672-154,008 based on requisite work experience and performance during the interview process. We intend to hire a candidate who fully meets or exceeds the qualifications for this role, so we expect to offer a base salary in the top half of the salary band.
In line with our commitment to equity, fairness, and transparency, we do not negotiate salaries.
Signing bonus of 5% of base salary to be paid in two installments: 50% on the first eligible payroll and 50% within 6 months of the hire date.
51 total days off per fiscal year (a combination of company-paid holidays, vacation, sick, and personal time).

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships’ primary responsibilities include:
Corporate Partnerships Strategy and Execution
Craft and execute an overall annual and long-term vision for Corporate partnerships, including strategies and campaigns for retaining and upgrading current donors, securing new donor investments, and strengthening pathways for Making Waves Academy and college students to pursue postsecondary opportunities
Conduct regular analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to inform ongoing priorities and adjust course where needed in order to ultimately meet ambitious annual goals aligned with organization OKRs and strategic plan
Funder Cultivation and Stewardship
Source, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of high-capacity corporations and foundations by developing and executing tailored cultivation and engagement plans
Develop and maintain fluency in Making Waves Education Foundation and Making Waves Academy programs and operations
Strategically leverage the CEO, Chief Development Officer, board members, and other senior leaders to steward and engage donors, including preparing these individuals for successful funder interactions
Compose tailored grant narratives, pitches, and employee engagement opportunities for high-stakes corporate and foundation donors, including reports, proposals, and donor correspondence
Collaborate with Making Waves Academy team to cultivate/steward current and prospective corporate and foundation funders
Maintain up-to-date donor records for relationships to ensure accuracy of account information, interaction history, and proposal/report submissions
Assess Bay Area corporate and foundation philanthropy landscape through research and prospecting databases, identifying and qualifying new and lapsed funders for outreach and cultivation efforts

ABOUT MAKING WAVES EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Making Waves Education Foundation is an education nonprofit that students historically underserved and underrepresented to pursue college and career pathways that set them up for a thriving career, financial independence, and a choice-filled life.
We support Making Waves Academy (MWA), a 5-12 grade public charter school in Richmond, CA. After high school graduation, each of our students (we call them “Wave-Makers”) is invited to join our college success and early career program, where they can receive a need-based scholarship, one-to-one college coaching, and financial literacy training. Each year, we support over 1,200 5th – 12th graders and over 500 college students on their journeys to and through college. In 2020, Making Waves Foundation launched a new strategic plan to serve more students and families. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you will be responsible for 1) leading the year-to-year strategy and execution of corporate partnerships, 2) managing a portfolio of institutional funders, 3) retaining, upgrading, and diversifying our base of corporate and foundation partners.

The Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships is a full-time, exempt role, and will be eligible to receive:
A competitive base salary range of $102,672-154,008 based on requisite work experience and performance during the interview process. We intend to hire a candidate who fully meets or exceeds the qualifications for this role, so we expect to offer a base salary in the top half of the salary band.
In line with our commitment to equity, fairness, and transparency, we do not negotiate salaries.
Signing bonus of 5% of base salary to be paid in two installments: 50% on the first eligible payroll and 50% within 6 months of the hire date.
51 total days off per fiscal year (a combination of company-paid holidays, vacation, sick, and personal time).
100% employer paid medical (Kaiser HMO Platinum), vision, and dental benefits for the full-time staff member and a spouse/domestic partner or dependent child(ren).

A hybrid work environment where you will work from the office on five (5) common days and up to 3 additional days for Leadership Team meetings a month, with flexibility to work remotely otherwise. We provide a monthly wi-fi reimbursement and a home set-up stipend to set staff up to successfully work remotely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships’ primary responsibilities include:
Corporate Partnerships Strategy and Execution
Craft and execute an overall annual and long-term vision for Corporate partnerships, including strategies and campaigns for retaining and upgrading current donors, securing new donor investments, and strengthening pathways for Making Waves Academy and college students to pursue postsecondary opportunities
Conduct regular analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to inform ongoing priorities and adjust course where needed in order to ultimately meet ambitious annual goals aligned with organization OKRs and strategic plan
Funder Cultivation and Stewardship
Source, cultivate, and steward a portfolio of high-capacity corporations and foundations by developing and executing tailored cultivation and engagement plans
Develop and maintain fluency in Making Waves Education Foundation and Making Waves Academy programs and operations
Strategically leverage the CEO, Chief Development Officer, board members, and other senior leaders to steward and engage donors, including preparing these individuals for successful funder interactions
Compose tailored grant narratives, pitches, and employee engagement opportunities for high-stakes corporate and foundation donors, including reports, proposals, and donor correspondence
Collaborate with Making Waves Academy team to cultivate/steward current and prospective corporate and foundation funders
Maintain up-to-date donor records for relationships to ensure accuracy of account information, interaction history, and proposal/report submissions
Assess Bay Area corporate and foundation philanthropy landscape through research and prospecting databases, identifying and qualifying new and lapsed funders for outreach and cultivation efforts
Contribute to important cross-functional projects
Serve as a member of the Leadership Team
Participate in organization-wide systems, processes, and rituals (e.g., annual and quarterly goal setting, employee engagement surveys, All Hands); commit to providing feedback to improve our work in the future.
Contribute to the development of a growing, fast-paced organization, including participation in events and programming as well as database and technology oversight and maintenance.

KEY EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
What you’ve accomplished (required):
5+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership or institutional fundraising with a proven record of achieving ambitious goals
Prior experience working in K-12 education, external partnerships, or strategy highly preferred
Knowledge of Salesforce CRM preferred but not required
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university

ABOUT MAKING WAVES EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Making Waves Education Foundation is an education nonprofit that students historically underserved and underrepresented to pursue college and career pathways that set them up for a thriving career, financial independence, and a choice-filled life.
We support Making Waves Academy (MWA), a 5-12 grade public charter school in Richmond, CA. After high school graduation, each of our students (we call them “Wave-Makers”) is invited to join our college success and early career program, where they can receive a need-based scholarship, one-to-one college coaching, and financial literacy training. Each year, we support over 1,200 5th – 12th graders and over 500 college students on their journeys to and through college. In 2020, Making Waves Foundation launched a new strategic plan to serve more students and families. We will do this by taking the best of what we’ve learned at Making Waves Academy about college access and the best of what we’ve learned at Making Waves Foundation about college success and work to increase the college attendance and graduation rate for low-income students across Contra Costa County and beyond.

Serve as mentor/informal leader to less experienced team members and operational resource in the areas of retention and strengthening donor relationships. 3. Implement a program/activity to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors at the $5,000 level or higher, with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for the American Red Cross. Work with leadership volunteers to identify and cultivate appropriate donors and partner with assigned Gift Planning staff to solicit giving prospects among identified donors. Update donor records in region and/or district database and Salesforce.com following donor contacts. May lead team(s) in planning and executing against prospecting development programs. 4. Develop ongoing relationships, cultivate, solicit and steward support of major donors from individuals, corporations and foundations to meet annual fundraising goals within the region. Support volunteer leaders in peer-to-peer outreach, (if appropriate) using giving societies such as the Tiffany Circle Society as a key program. Assist corporations in achieving their goals in strengthening their brand, marketing, and employee engagement. Articulate Red Cross programs, listen to corporations’ needs and align programs to their interests. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The Regional Philanthropy Sr. Partner will identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective Regional donors in expanding their financial support of the work of the American Red Cross. Update donor records in region and/or district database and Salesforce.com following donor contacts. May lead team(s) in planning and executing against prospecting development programs. 4. Develop ongoing relationships, cultivate, solicit and steward support of major donors from individuals, corporations and foundations to meet annual fundraising goals within the region. Support volunteer leaders in peer-to-peer outreach, (if appropriate) using giving societies such as the Tiffany Circle Society as a key program. Assist corporations in achieving their goals in strengthening their brand, marketing, and employee engagement. Articulate Red Cross programs, listen to corporations’ needs and align programs to their interests. Prepare grant proposals, and engage foundation staff and board members to cultivate and solicit support for the American Red Cross. 5. Participate in disaster relief fundraising projects as appropriate. May oversee and have responsibility for staff development. 6. Recruit, develop and work with field staff and volunteers. Essential Function: The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing the fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization. Essential Function: The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing the fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization. The CDO develops and implements a strategic partnerships and corresponding action plan, to generate funding to include corporate, foundation, government investments, events, grant writing and high donor giving for both the LULAC 501(c)3 and 501(c)4.
Creates annual strategic development fundraising plan by analyzing past efforts, setting donor strategies, determining calendar of activities, and establishing goals and evaluate fundraising Sets annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals.
Researches and identifies opportunities to write and submit major requests for proposals as outlined in the annual fundraising plan to generate Develop supplementary materials, marketing plan, and program timelines as requested by sponsor. Determine success metrics and develop progress reports to funders.
Maintains foundation and corporate relations by strengthening working relationships with foundation and corporate giving representatives. Actively participates in external engagements or gatherings where target investors are present, using these opportunities to deepen relationships with current investors and to advance strategies and secure new partners. Schedule face-to-face meetings with major contributors and prospects, send acknowledgement, provide program updates, and required reports, and shares media promotions with funders, meets any other funder requirements.
Maintains a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals
Conducts program design, goal setting & finance by participating in internal programs’ meetings where development perspective is required, including corporate Collaborate and coordinate with top management to set annual fundraising goals. Create new innovative programs to pitch to funders.
Coordinates with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of grant portfolios, budget creation, and ensures compliance with government and grant regulations. Prepare invoices and conduct collections from funders, manage fiscal agent agreements, and provide other finance and budget planning support to CFO as requested by the CEO.
Serves as the onsite event liaison to greet donors, sponsors , and ensure all agreed upon services are carried out as specified per the signed agreement.
Manages information using database and other software as Oversees online giving strategies and develops fundraising tools such as partnership opportunities guide, programs and event reporting as required.

Identify new opportunities for funding that align with American Progress’ programs through prospect research, working closely with the Institutional Giving Coordinator.
Prepare donor materials, including but not limited to proposals, letters of inquiry, grant reports, agreements, emails, presentations, and acknowledgment letters. This includes drafting original copy, editing, and formatting as needed.
Lead the planning and execution of meetings with institutional donor staff; provide strategic guidance on research and draft briefings for executive leadership in advance of donor meetings; and prepare senior staff for donor meetings and phone calls.
Partner with American Progress policy staff and senior leadership to cultivate relationships with both current and prospective donors and support foundation fundraising on the part of American Progress’ Executive team.
Track grant requirements and deadlines as well as contact between American Progress and funders.
Liaise with finance staff to monitor grant spending.
Participate in regular coalition funding coordination calls.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed to move forward American Progress’ Institutional Giving portfolio.
Requirements and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least seven to 10 years of foundation relations experience or comparable work with foundations, preferably at a nonprofit advocacy or policy-oriented organization.
Demonstrated success managing a seven-figure portfolio of foundation donors and managing relationships with both program officers and internal colleagues to create the conditions for success.
Demonstrated success in soliciting and renewing contributions from institutional funders by articulating a compelling case for support through communication tools, such as written grant proposals, reports, and budget documents, or verbal and visual presentations, among others.
Knowledge of various progressive philanthropic sectors, including climate or international affairs, is desirable.

This is a new role at the organization and we're looking for someone who approaches their work with intention and curiosity. Someone who is enthusiastic about budgeting and budget analytics who wants to be a part of reimaging the budgeting operations at America Votes. The ideal candidate is something of a spreadsheet wizard who knows both Google Sheets and Excel inside and out. We prefer someone with previous budget analytics experience, but we are open to a candidate with strong Excel skills who is excited to lean into this unique opportunity and is okay with trial by fire, especially if you have previous political experience.
